Polite Society (available with a Peacock subscription) is about Ria Khan who wishes to be a stuntwoman. She is very close to her sister, a wanna be artist. One day, Ria’s sister, Lena, announces that she is marrying the doctor she’s been seeing. Ria believes the groom-to-be’s family is evil and sets out to sabotage the wedding to save her sister.
The story was definitely odd, but not bad. There are a lot of funny moments and some action scenes. I liked how pretty much everyone knew how to fight. It didn’t matter if they were spa workers or students. I also liked how the people could get thrown through a door, and they stood back up without any real injuries. It doesn’t have the greatest plot–main character tries to stop wedding–and at times Ria comes across as a borderline brat, but the movie is funny. You could see moments were they were making fun of movie tropes. It is definitely a movie that doesn’t take itself seriously.
If you like funny, action movies that don’t care much about “realism” then Polite Society is a good choice. It is a great movie where you can sit back, eat popcorn, and not think about anything.
Until the next wormhole…thanks for reading.
