This new cozy game has a DARK TWIST via MadMorph
I’ve never been one for life simulator games, like Stardew Valley. Whenever someone was like, “I just paid $60 for a video game where I do laundry and wash the dishes, and it is great!” I want to say, “Come over to my place and you can do that for free.” I have enough of real life in my real life; I don’t need it in my games (or books).
However, Grimshire, is nothing like that. I mean, it’s in the title…Grim.
Sure, it has cute, fluffy human-animals. It also has cozy, happy music. And of course, it has farming. But, like MadMorph says, “It has a dark twist.” I’m not going to spoil the full twist, but I am going to say that it is nice to have a farming game with stakes (and I don’t mean t-bones). In the game, you are the only one with useable farm land; so if you don’t provide food, the cute, fluffy animals starve. So, just like MadMorph says, “It’s nice to see a farming game that doesn’t have farming for farming sake.” The game has a plot. Your character has a purpose.
The developers also do a good job of having those stakes while not overshadowing the farming aspect. So far, the twist is a part of the game, but you still are mostly farming, fishing, mining, and chatting with residents. At least, that’s what was going on in the demo.
Which leads me into my next point: the demo. Ugh! I wish MadMorph would have said it was a demo in his title. The whole video I was like, “This is awesome! I should buy this game! I wanna see more of this!” only to have him say at the end, “That’s the end of the demo.” I hate it when walkthrough creators don’t say it’s a demo. It’s really annoying when the title says “full game walkthrough.” It’s not a full game walkthrough; it’s a demo! GAH!
Anyway, MadMorph’s demo walkthrough is pretty enjoyable. When he isn’t making jokes, sometimes dark ones, he’s battling his cats. You can hear a couple times when they aren’t too happy with him. And him making up lyrics to the game’s music is hilarious—guy has some skills.
Until the next wormhole…thanks for reading!
