The First Bass Crafters Fishing Tournament! :: Minecraft Hermitcraft via Bdouble0100

Wolf King is based on the Wereworld book series by Curtis Jobling.

Season One of the Netflix series Wolf King has Drew discovering his werewolf powers and heritage. He and his friends, Hector and Gretchen, have to stay one step ahead of the Lions, who don’t want the Wolf to challenge their dominance.

The series is differently “tamer” than the bool series. It is a lot more family friendly. People still die but the killing blow is off screen and without blood, or very little. Whereas in the books a character is maimed or seriously injured, the series will skip over it or tone it down. For instance, Drews first fight with the wererat is more graphic in the book. In the series, Drew only leaves a scratch-scar over the wererat’s face.

I was unsure about the animation style at first. It seemed a little jerky at times, but my hesitation lasted only about a minute. The awesomeness of the series outweighed any issue.

I did find it odd that Hector and Gretchen never morphed and that only Whitley’s hands changed. The show never explained why they don’t fully shift but Drew and Lucas can. The adults can…maybe the teens aren’t old enough while Drew and Lucas are more emotional. Gretchen, Hector, and Whitley do seem more in control—Whitley a little less thus only partly transforming.

I like that the season feels complete. It does end with a set-up for next season, but you feel like all the major plot points have been resolved.

The characters’ personalities and designs were amazing. Each character felt unique. You could tell each character’s strengths and weaknesses, and they all felt vital to the story.

I really liked the energy effect when they morph. I also like how each were-creature had its own animal-eye color-energy. It was also a nice touch how their eye energy trialed after them when they moved quickly.

I ended up watching all eight episodes twice in one weekend. I’m really looking forward to the next season. I hope it’s soon.
