Some spoilers ahead.

{BOO!!}

GAH!! What’d you do that for?

{A prank.}

I take it you finished reading The Gorgon’s Fury by Brandon Mull.

{I did.}

And?

{Wasn’t bad. To be honest, I wasn’t much a fan of the Dragonwatch or Fablehaven books, but this one wasn’t bad, even though it was a spin-off with Newel and Doren.}

Yeah, I’m more a fan of Beyonders and Five Kingdoms, but I did like the Newel and Doren story. I liked that it was shorter, or at least seemed shorter. You really can see the characteristics of not just Newel and Doren but all the characters. The settings seemed to come to life as well.

{I liked the humor.}

Oh, yes, the humor was great. I love how they kept stopping to eat or goof off even though they were on an important mission. It was funny how they were constantly like, “We’re only doing this for the smartphones.” At least, that’s what they said. You could tell that it was more.

{They did talk about how they were trying to help their friends.}

They did. But I liked how they would kind of default to the smartphones like, “Oh no, we’re not heroes. We only want the reward. Yes, see we’re satyrs.” I like how Newel is so concerned with them “going soft” and becoming more “human.”

It was a shorter, enjoyable read with lots of humor and great characters. Also, the way they deal with the gorgon was unique. It wasn’t a grand battle with lots of explosions and swordplay, and it fit in with the beginning of the story.

4/5
