Accessing Watcher Files…
Access granted: The Alpha-Zeta War
In the first timeline, the world became aware of transbeings on December 21, 2012. Soon after the general public knew that aliens, sentient robots, human-like animals, and superhumans, the world broke into fear and violence.
Monster hunters attacked or tortured transbeings. Friendships ended. Jobs were lost. Soon all out war broke out between the transbeings (alphas) and normal humans (zetas). It was World War III, or the Alpha-Zeta War.
As the fighting increased, many cities were abandoned. Over the course of weeks, places like Manhattan, St. Louis, Chicago, and Las Vegas were ghost towns.
Many transbeings decided they needed to find a safer home. They began their trek to an island in the Bermuda Triangle that would one day be known as Freedom Isle.
The hunters, the government, and more chased down the fleeing alphas. The chase ended at the Florida coastline where in a Moses-like moment, the sea parted. The transbeings escaped, and those foolish enough to follow, well…you can guess.
Mysterious monoliths appear across time, space, and reality. Nineteen genre-bending short stories written by independent authors from across the world explore the phenomenon.

But the moment that ended the war was when supporters of the hunters turned the world’s nuclear weapons on the planet. After the Transbeing Exodus, the hunters and their kind realized the only way to destroy “creatures” that could be anyone (and now that many escaped to Freedom Isle, anywhere) was to bomb the whole planet.
The missiles struck the Earth. The Great Catastrophe had come.
The war was over, and the survivors had more important matters than transbeings.
Eventually, scientists found a way to travel back in time. Seven survivors were chosen to try and stop the Catastrophe. The time travelers tried and tried and tried some more but never succeeded. However, they succeeded enough that the war was…”not as bad.”
Events can’t be completely erased by time travel. On some level, people knew. One group knew and tried to do something. They became part of the government. They tried using an organization known as Ether Operations to cover up the existence of transbeings. In reality, many of the Ether Ops agents were monster hunters.
History repeated itself. The world learned of transbeings and war seemed inevitable. In a last Hail Mary, the world governments released the Love Bug, a man-man retro-virus that caused the infected to be more tolerant of the fellow sentient beings.
However, the flames of hate and jealousy don’t die easily. The Love Bug proved to be a temporary solution. The world leaders decided to fake the massive missile strike that ended the original war. This time they blamed a group known as the UnPlugs, people who believed technology had progressed too far. With a common enemy that was not transbeings, the war settled down.
To keep the peace, the world governments worked tirelessly to alter the past by removing anything that might start the war again. History books were changed; other books were burned. The governments created force shield domes over some cities to further distance people so they couldn’t “compare notes.” They claimed it was to protect them from the fallout radiation and from UnPlug attacks.
On occasion, the world governments will hire a super-villain to attack so that a superhero can save the day. This show is to reinforce the idea that transbeings can be a force for good. Instead of fearing them, people say, “I’m glad we have superheroes to protect us!”
Recently, many of the coverups and conspiracies created to keep the peace have come to light. With the truth exposed, who knows if or when the Alpha-Zeta War may return.

The teen seemed stunned at first but continued. “The vid also showed him eating some leftover chicken nuggets from the mini fridge. I checked mine. The nuggets were gone.”
Jason coughed and shifted uncomfortably as Chip continued to stare at him.
“Uh,” said Jason, wanting the silence to end, “do you think he’s breaking in my house and recording videos? I know it sounds—”
Charlie returned. “OK, Bro, looks like we can—” Charlie stopped short when he saw Chip and Jason.
Chip turned to Charlie. “Get my bus pass; I’ve got a mystery to solve.”
