🎵 War! What is it good for? 🎵
Blog posts?
Well, I suppose the war in Civil War did amount to some good…maybe. The reason behind it wasn’t the clearest.
They did mention the President dissolving the FBI and launching airstrikes against civilians and giving himself a third term. What more did you need?
You have a point there.
The movie was surprisingly not as violent as I expected. It was violent, don’t get me wrong. You just didn’t see a lot of gore. The big bloody scene seemed realistic. It didn’t seem over the top in order to incite shock. (The movie was shocking enough.)
A lot of the time when someone was shot you saw them jerk then collapse. Sometimes you did see blood or see the bullet hole. And there were things like people being burned or blown up.
What about the characters or the setting?
The actors (and the rest of the crew) did an excellent job of showing rather than telling. You get a sense of who Lee is without her talking much of the battles she’s seen. You can tell how she cares about Jessie immediately.
You really felt like you were in a battlefield. It felt scary. You felt powerless.
The feelings of foreboding in places like a gas station or a theme park drove home how out of control everything was. Places that are supposed to be normal, like a car wash, or joyful, like a Christmas park, were turned insidious.
The photographs were amazing and so well timed. They really added a punch to the story.
