I whistled while I waited for the elevator. The lobby to the MyVideo Studios was pleasant enough: tranquil music, fountain, comfortable seating. But the guard kept shooting me the Evil Eye. I have no idea why. I’ve been here many times. Sally works on the 13th floor, WAG News.

The MyVideo Studios is a tall building that offers studios for MyVideo creators, those who can afford it. The studios come with equipment, but most of the time it is replaced because it’s…to put it nicely, cheap. The Studios building holds everything from news stations to art studios to a guy that plays armpit music. Some are permanent, like WAG, while others rent when they can, like the lady who uses cats to tell stories.

The elevator is taking a really long time today.

The hairs on the back of my neck stood. A second later, my telepathic/werewolf hearing picked up the sound of a cable groaning. In my mind, I could see the elevator. The cable was breaking. My psychic/werewolf sense of smell picked up a burning smell. I then saw something that only showed up as a shadow burning the cable. Inside the elevator, I could smell and hear Sally and Max McGruffin, owner and publisher of WAG News.

What’s she doing riding the elevator with him? I was going to meet her at her cubicle, and we’d go to lunch.

I heard Sally and Max gasp as the elevator jerked. The cable weakened by the second.

I glanced around the area for a private spot to change into Dogboy.

Storage closet. Classic.

I entered the closet. It turned out to be a janitor’s closet. I kinda wondered why a storage closet was on the lobby floor.

I closed my eyes and focused. Dogboy.

A golden light surrounded me as I transformed from a 5 foot 6 inch teenage human into a 6 foot humanoid golden retriever. My clothes, thanks to nanobots, changed into a purple and white letterman’s jacket, blue cargo pants, and purple and white sneakers. My feet broke through the toes of the shoes as they became dog feet. My tail split the back of my pants. A patch-like emblem of a purple dog’s paw with a white “D” appeared on the jacket. My glasses became purple tinted visor-like sunglasses. My black belt became a yellow one with a “D” belt buckle.

Once the process completed, the light faded.

Dogboy stepped out of the closet. He took two steps and vanished in a swirl of fur. He teleported a few floors up. He stepped again and teleported over to the closed elevator doors. Using telekinetic-strength, he pulled at the doors, slowly opening them.

A couple of floors above him, he saw the device burning away at the cable.

“Should be an easy fix,” he said in a deeper, more dog-like voice than my human voice. “At least until permanent repairs can be made.”

He reached for his belt. As he did, a machine began to materialize out of purple and white cells of matter. Nanobots constructed a gadget (or Dog Toy) that looked like a cross between a large water gun and a flamethrower. It was purple and white with a large barrel attached to the top. The device was called the fleathrower. It can shoot robotic fleas that can do things like freeze objects, burn objects, electrify objects; or in this case, mend a cable.

Dogboy aimed the fleathrower. First, he’d take out the device with an electric shot then melt and freeze the cable for a quick repair.

SNAP!

The cable broke.

Reaction: The Bellwoods Game by Celia Krampien Ch 11-14

The only thing to say about these chapters…

🎵 Duh-duh-dummm! 🎵

Dogboy heard Sally and Max scream as the cable flew by him like a fly avoiding a flyswatter. He regained his focus and leapt into the elevator shaft. He used his telekinesis to propel himself faster down the shaft. Within seconds, he caught up with the remaining elevator cable.

SNAP!

He grabbed the cable in his mouth then slammed his claws into the sides of the shaft. He pulled at the cable with his mouth and ground his claws along the sides. Sparks flew. A horrible screeching noise vibrated through the shaft. Dogboy had to shut out the high-pitched noise. He terribly wanted to cover his sensitive ears.

Finally, the elevator slowed. Then it stopped.

Dogboy heard the sighs of relief and smelled the joy from Sally and Max.

Dogboy began climbing the last few feet to the lobby floor. He released the elevator to the shaft floor then landed, as softly as a 6 foot dog can, on top of the elevator. He slipped through the emergency hatch. Sally and Max said words of thanks; Dogboy pried open the doors. Security and rescue workers began helping the two as they continued to thank Dogboy and the workers.

Some time later, Dogboy met with Sally and Max. Earlier, he told the police about the device, which they recovered and bagged for evidence. He asked if they knew any reason someone might want to sabotage the elevator.

Max shook his head. He guessed, “To get on the news?” He shrugged. “There are a lot of other creators here. Maybe it was just ‘wrong time, wrong place.’”

“What about those guys wanting to buy WAG News?” said Sally.

Dogboy sensed a nervous vibe from Max. “Oh, right,” he said.

“What guys?” asked Dogboy.

“Some shady guys,” said Sally. “I’ve seen them around before.”

Max waved her off. “They’ve been hanging around trying to buy up a lot of these businesses.”

“Why would they be doing that?” Dogboy asked.

“Pfft,” said Max, with a shrug. “Maybe they want to make the next Wonder Riders Go! show. How should I know?”

He knows something, Dogboy thought. He knew Sally knew that something wasn’t right too; she had that look on her face–her investigative reporter face. Maybe it was the fur along his hackles raising, or maybe it was how well he knew Sally, but there was no doubt in his mind: she’d be knee deep in trouble sooner than he’d like.
